Life is hard. We are met with more demands and more stimuli from more places than any previous generation has ever had to contend with. And at what expense? How do you manage to be the person you want and need to be, and still remain true to yourself? How do you get to those higher level goals when you are just trying to figure out what to eat for dinner? How do you manage the judgement or expectations of others yet find some glimmer of happiness and contentment for yourself?
Where do we accept our circumstances? Where do we push ourselves for something different? These are all things that I hear again and again in my office. Because the struggle is universal. But the path is unique to each individual. I do my best work with adults who have some degree of anxiety or depression and feel stuck or at a loss as to how to proceed. Sometimes there is a specific issue that brings somebody in, and sometimes it is a more general ‘meh’.
Therapy gives you a way to get the support you need and deserve. The path is different for each client, and sometimes coming to therapy feels like a risk. Or a plunge. Good news--that is all totally normal!
